FORMER STREET CHILDREN OF HAITI DANCE TO TELL THEIR STORY AND TO REBUILD FROM THE RUBBLE OF THE JANUARY 12TH EARTHQUAKE
Orlando, Florida – March 9, 2010 – The Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti (RDTH) is an internationally recognized dance troupe of former orphaned street children and child slaves in Haiti. They are touring in the United States and will be performing at The First Haitian Baptist Church of Orlando on March 27, 2010 at 7:00pm and at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Longwood, on March 28, 2010 at 4:00pm. The troupe will use drumming and dance to tell the stories of their lives. These performances will be free and open to the public.
“The Resurrection Dance Theater of Haiti is a powerful example of the raw talent, passion, and the ability to overcome all obstacles of the Haitian people. To see this world renowned dance troupe perform is to be immersed in the Haitian culture and the best of what it means to be human,” offers Rev. Nathan Swenson-Reinhold, pastor of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Longwood. St. Stephen Lutheran Church partnered with the Haitian Timoun Foundation to bring the RDTH to the Central Florida area.
In 1985, Michael Geilenfeld, a former Brother with Mother Theresa’s Brothers of Charity, established the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in order to offer children living on the streets of Haiti a safe and supportive family environment in which to live and learn. With the establishment of the home, Michael also began the Resurrection Dance Theater, providing an opportunity for the boys to share their stories through dance and music. Over the years the St. Joseph’s family has grown to create and include not only St. Joseph’s of Port au Prince, but also a home for mentally and physically handicapped children called Wings of Hope in Fermathe, and the Trinity House Home for Boys of Jacmel.
This tour of the United States posed the greatest challenge for the troupe as they lost their home, St. Joseph’s Home for Boys, costumes and drums during the January 12th earthquake that shook Port au Prince. However, the earthquake did not take their determination to thrive and to rise from the rubble. They have gone on to sew new costumes, repair damaged drums, and are ready to spread the culture and spirit of Haiti in order to rebuild the St. Joseph home for future generations of boys living on the streets of Port au Prince.
Performance Schedule:
March 27, 2010 at 7:00pm – First Haitian Baptist Church of Orlando, 4701 Lenox Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32811-4500, Tel: 407-578-6988
March 28, 2010 at 4:00pm – St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 2140 West State Road 434, Longwood, FL 32779, Tel: 407-869-0491 (Welcome Reception follows at 6:00pm)

The Event and Supporting Events:
The Lantern Festival:
The lanterns range in size from 1’ to 290’ long by 1’ to 60’ high with sizes determined by subject matter. The overriding theme of the Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival will be the first ever of Zheng He by the Royal Lantern Makers. For 75 continuous evenings, the Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival combines Christmas, Valentines Day, Thanksgiving, Theme Park, Education, foreign tours, myth, fact, philosophy, and, beliefs, with Art and one’s absolute best behavior. See: PR China, CCTV, South Africa, HK, Singapore, and Caribbean Tourism Agencies.
Seminars:These events are joint efforts between bi-national interest. They will grow in boundary from local, to regional, national, and finally, international. Their purpose is to start growing a substantial Southeastern Center for Chinese interest in intellectual, business, tourism, and investment endeavors, and, government to government relations. The initial seminars will take place through the collaboration of 18 local and 32 Chinese colleges, universities, institutes, and advanced high schools. These colloquia, of every imaginable topic, shall occur at 6-9 month intervals. See: China Studies Center, US China Friendship Assoc., Harvard and Emory Universities, Georgia Institute of Technology.
Literature:These events will take place as collaborative library exhibitions of substance in Chinese and Oriental studies. The libraries shall invite authors to speak and exhibit artifacts on the topics of history, invention, technology, philosophy, politics, and, literature that is related to China’s contributions to civilization. These programs initiate the steps toward correcting world history that includes China’s first “Opening to the outside world.” This inclusion, recognized by Western historians for centuries, was always left to future generations to correct. With this Lantern Festival and these events, we establish that the future generation must be this generation, at this time and, in this place. See: Cambridge University Press, City of Hong Kong
Exhibitions:A substantial exhibition of Zheng He’s Treasure Ships will be shown for the duration of the Lantern Festival and perhaps beyond. An appropriate site has not been selected though the exhibition is completed and will be loaned (rented) by the governments of Singapore and PR China. This exhibition is a destination event for America’s, Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe. These ships are known by Western historians and remembered native peoples on many continents for centuries. Public knowledge of these visits in Western societies has been, in general, eliminated by those who approve public education’s informational content. See: HK, Sichuan, Zigong, Cheng-du, Shantou
Education:We believe the ties established between local and Chinese institutions of higher learning during the Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival shall lead to extensive exchanges of students, scholars, and foster research and development opportunities. Simultaneously, the general public of both countries will be intensely educated without formality. The Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival brings to China, the recognition of their history, culture, beliefs, and philosophies in connection, not in opposition to or without their collaborative efforts becoming subject to outside suppositional or assumptive beliefs. "HELPING TO FEED AND EDUCATE UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS IN GUYANA"
The Toronto Foundation: "Helping to Feed and Educate Underprivileged Students in Guyana" came into being in November 2002 for the sole purpose as stated in the above-named project. This project involves locating schools in the general Guyana Diaspora where it has been identified that the nutritional needs of the students are not being effectively met. Through participation in this initiative, students are enabled to reap full benefits for the educational information being passed on to them.
The Toronto Committee has successfully held five (5) fundraising banquets from which they were able to gamer a total of $59,824.00. This amount has been utilized, with the assistance and administration of the Guyana Committee to feed the following nine (9) schools.
* Capoey Primary
* Malgre Tout Primary * La GrangePrimary * Karawab Primary
* Kuru Kururu Primary * Supply Primary
* Martindale Primary * Mashabo Primary

·The fund raising party held in June 2009 netted a profit of approximately $9,500.This money will be used for the R. C. Diocesan Soup Kitchen program, the retirement fund for Guyanese Diocesan priests living in Guyana, an Educational Fund in memory of the late Fr. Ronald Pieters and this year’s annual Guyana Mass. The financial statement from this event will be posted at the entrances to the church and auditorium. Thank you very much for supporting this effort.

Mr. Khan,
Hey guy, Oliver just finished reading the impressive week of activities outlined for the Saints reunion and I must say that ,without a doubt, that that was some masterful planning done by the respectful attorney and planning committee, which, in my humblest opinion, will be a week to remember.Sure wish I had had the opportunity to attend Saints.
